Our children move through three groups during their time here, allowing for individualised learning programmes that are developmentally appropriate and stimulating.
The Ladybugs group is for our younger children, with a quiet space in the centre. Learning at this age is based largely on building physical development and confidence through exploration. We recognise that this group of children have the highest need for secure relationships and regular-but-flexible routines.
The Kea club
This is for children aged around 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years. The Kea Club has optional group activities planned around children's interests. These may include introductions to a variety of mahi toi (art and craft), going for a walk in our local community, doing a simple science experiment or making music. Early literacy and numeracy skills are holistically integrated into this programme through reading, songs and everyday conversations.
The wacky wetas
This group is for our older children, aged 3 1/2 to 6. In this group children increasingly develop other skills that will ensure a smooth transition to school. This includes learning to work as a group, developing the confidence to share their own ideas and opinions within a group, listening to others, and independently resolving conflict with friends. There is ongoing, holistic building of children's literacy and numeracy skills, and developing familiarity with the ‘tools’ of school (e.g. writing implements, art media, and glue sticks).
